Papez Circuit: Its Effect on Behavior and Memory Introduction The mind is beautiful creation that contains so many small, intricate parts, but yet has a tremendous effect on many aspects of the human life. There are many aspects of the human brain that have created intrigue within the field of psychology. How are emotions and memory affected by impact or development of the human brain? As the brain goes through stages of development, or lack of, or possibly is impacted by an external incident, human emotion and memory are two such behaviors of the brain that can be massively impacted according to the Papez circuit model (Heilman, 2002). The fornix, mammillary bodies, anterior thalamic nucleus cingulate cortex, and hippocampus are the key locations (Jacobson & Marcus, 2008) where the daily traffic of emotion and memory travel daily. The complexity to this neural pathway can be overwhelming, but the basis for its understanding can have a huge impact. The Papez Circuit Neural Pathway As the name would indicate, neurology is the study of the nervous systems interaction with the brain.
