I knew for a fact that I did not want to work with children of any kinds. It is funny because some of the jobs that I had growing up where with children varying in ages. By the end of high school, I thought my calling was in social work. So, I completed my bachelors in social work and worked with various populations including the homeless. I was convinced and I started making plans to continue my education and get my masters in social work. During the summer after college graduation is when I was introduced to the world of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). I went into the field not knowing a thing about autism and the umbrella of it. All that changed with I become a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT). Working as an RBT, I was involved in providing direct one-to-one services to individuals with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and was starting to fall in love with what I was doing. As a behavioral technician, I taught language/communication, social skills, daily living/adaptive skills, pre-academic skills, and more. It was an amazing experience to be part of these childrens success stories as they became more independent.
