Major Darvin T. Williams has been my mentor and exhibits the professionalism, intelligence, integrity, and humanity as one of the great leaders I have worked with in the United States Army. Darvin was my direct supervisor when we served for the 1st Battalion 66th Armor Regiment in Fort Carson, Colorado. The command sergeant major position in the Army is to serve as the senior enlisted advisor to the commander of the soldiers. “Command sergeants major are the senior leaders responsible for leading soldiers and caring for their families at the very tip of the Army's spear, and they both stand in the nexus of a critical two-way communication system,” (Dubik, J. M., &Hodne, D. M., 2013). He kept the commander advised of all possible circumstances, procedures and normalcies that could affect the welfare, morale, and job performance of the soldiers. Being a command sergeant major would vary depending on the echelon youre selected to lead. Darvin has been in several armored units, serving as a tanker gave him the knowledge to be the well-rounded leader he was to the organization. His experience started from the basics of learning and driving a tank, being the gunner and firing a tank, becoming a tank commander, and then onto a first sergeant of a tank company.
