IT332_Unit5_Assignment.docx Unit 5 Assignment Purdue Global University IT332 – Principles of Information Architecture Introduction A Cluster is where a group of computers that are loosel... y coupled together can work together as a unit (Englander, 2014). There are many various types of cluster, with each of them having their own benefits and challenges. In this paper, we will discuss the database cluster, which is where many databases operate together as a single database for the benefit of the network. Cluster Concept In the database cluster, e ach computer is referred to as a node because it is a complete system, meaning it has its own CPU, GPU, memory, and different input/output devices. This type of connections is mainly used in a way that any regular customer or user will not be able to recognize or notice a difference. This type of connections allows a fail-safe type of connection to where if a node fails, the other nodes are unaffected, which ends up increasing the overall computing power of the database. Types of Clusters With any type of clustering, you have two main types of clusters: Commodity-off-the-shelf or (COTS), and Blade Components, both of which are low-cost clusters. Typically, COTS are used with older generation computers that are linked together to create a better useful computer. With the blade components, typically each unit has a CPU, memory, I/O devices, with the possibility of an Ethernet Port. Each blade gets linked together by utilizing a link board.
