Competitive advantage can only be achieved when an organisation creates a good value chain (Davidsson & Wiklund, 2014). Producing or offering services at the lowest price and at the same time ensuring proper quality is needed in any business not just Costco. Such strategies have been found to help businesses beat their competitors. Offering a unique service or product will help avoid the inherent problems affecting businesses in the retail sector. Some organisations such as Air Asia and Walmart have performed well overtime through adoption of a cost leadership strategy. Other businesses have adopted various other strategies such as differentiation through their brand, design, or positioning. In some cases, organisations utilise a combination of strategies with an aim of making the most from their situation and achieving competitiveness.
