Professional Presence and Influence Mursion Simulation The learner utilized an immersive simulation program called Mursion to have a difficult conversation between two members of an Emergency Department (ED) staff. The hospitals CEO recently announced a 10% reduction in workforce (RIF) throughout the system. This RIF resulted in the EDs pharmacy making the decision to no longer focus on medication reconciliation and patient education. These duties now fell to the nursing staff, who were already experiencing feelings of stress and burnout. The learner focused on the five power skills of social-emotional intelligence (self-awareness, self-management, interpersonal communication, executive function, and social awareness) during the difficult conversation. The learner utilized an in-person meeting between Raymond, the nurse manager, and Jenna, the PharmD. Raymond came to the meeting in an emotional state, while Jenna came to the meeting very withdrawn. It was evident that Raymond did not think that the nursing staff should have to take on the additional responsibilities from pharmacy. His rationale was that the nursing staff was already overworked and stressed, and this would only add to that. While Jennas emotions were not as evident, she also felt that her team was being stretched very thin.
