This event would chang... e America dramatically and drastically. This period was known as the, “Boom and Bust. (Norton, 2015). The 1920s would be ending and the 1930s would start. Americans over buying stock, irresponsible banking practices, and overproduction concerns would cause concern and transform America as they knew it. The Stock market crash of 1929 was considered the worst economic event in history. (Marks, 2018). Before this time the twenties were roaring. The US economy was hitting all-time highs. It increased sixfold and top economist stated, “stock prices have reached a permanently high plateau. (Marks, 2018). During this time working class citizens were heavily involved in stock investments. Many Americans were buying stocks to earn money. Unemployment was down, auto was booming, stocks were purchased on margin. (Norton, 2015). When an upside comes about there is sure to be a downside. The Stock Market Crash of 1929 was the main cause of the Great Depression. Stocks at the time were overpriced and economist saw the collapse approaching. The rise in Market growth led to consumers being too confident. During the early 1900s unemployment was lower than 5 percent. During the Crash this number increased to about 25 percent. (Norton, 2015). Banks being irresponsible lead to the Depression as well.
