The category of oral antidiabetics drugs are Biguanides, Glindes, Sulfonylureas, Thiazolidinedi... ones, and Alpha-glucosides inhibitors[ CITATION Jil15 \l 1033 ]. Biguanides decrease intestinal absorption of glucose and the uptake of glucose by tissues. It lowers the production of glucose by the liver and is secreted by the kidneys. Hypoglycemia cannot happen because Biguanides do not secrete insulin. One of the warning signs is it can cause lactic acidosis[ CITATION Jil15 \l 1033 ]. Glinides act similar to sulfonylureas but they cause insulin secretion. They only last a short duration and they must be taken with food or they could quickly go into hypoglycemic reactions. Sulfonylureas increase insulin secretion, but you must have functioning b cells in your pancreas. Tissues are improved and respond well to insulin. If the blood glucose gets too low, because the b cells arent secreted, than the person can get hypoglycemia. While taking these, the person should be cautioned about taking herbals. The prescriber should also do a thorough job of checking the patients current medication list because sulfonylureas can interact with other drugs as well. Thiazolidinediones lower insulin resistance and raise glucose uptake to use in the muscle. Thiazolidinediones inhibit glucose and triglyceride production in the liver.
