TASK 1 .docx Task 1: Professional Accountability College of Health Professions, Western Governors University Task 1: Professional Accountability There are sixteen nursing theories that can influ... ence a nurses values and goals; however, the one theory that has influenced my values and goals is Madeline Leiningers theory of cultural care diversity and universality. Leiningers theory suggests that diversity, universality, worldview, and ethnohistory are all essential to the concepts of care, which include care, caring, health, and nursing (Cherry & Jacob, 2019). Her theory focuses on providing culturally competent nursing care by being aware of a patients cultural values and beliefs; resulting in better outcomes for patients of similar or different culture backgrounds. Nurses apply Madeline Leiningers theory to implement excellent nursing practices by being culturally aware and competent. Nurses provide care to patients with different cultural backgrounds on a daily basis and have to ensure that the care does not infringe on their patients beliefs. A part of being a culturally competent nurse also means being aware of their own beliefs and being willing to provide care that also aligns with that. I use Leiningers theory in my practice daily. I work in a community health setting so our patients are very culturally diverse. I ensure that I ask every patient about cultural considerations that I need to have so that I can plan their care in a manner that will better suit them.
