It is important that all healthcare facilities treat these emergencies equally with the use of evidence-based policies and procedures. Healthcare providers are trained to deal with such moral dilemmas in these emergent situations that require them to make quick ethical decisions that support the lives of patients. Emergency rooms might not have all the needed resources to maintain the health of multiple patients with the same medical needs. In these cases, triage of patients is needed to determine who to treat first. Recently in a nearby hospital, a similar situation occurred with two male patients suffering from the same respiratory issue arrived for treatment at the emergency room. The first male patient was a 32-year-old firefighter presenting with respiratory difficulties, who lived in the community his entire life. He sustained injuries while servicing the people of his community that were involved in an industrial accident. Not only does he provide service to the community but he has a wife and two sons he supports at home. Being an employed person, he has comprehensive health insurance.
