Roth et al. (2012) write that diabetes, often referred as diabetes mellitus, is a metabolic disease in which an individual has high blood glucose or blood sugar. That is either because insulin produc... tion in a person is inadequate or because their body's cells do not respond properly to insulin or an effect from both. Patients with high blood sugar will experience symptoms such as polyuria that is frequent urination. They also become increasingly thirsty a condition known as polydipsia, and they get hungry known as polyphagia. There are two types of diabetes, Type 1 diabetes characterised by lack of the insulin-producing beta cells of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas. That leads to an insulin deficiency in the body. The other type of diabetes is Type 2 diabetes characterized by insulin resistance, may combine with relatively reduced insulin secretion. Type 2 diabetes is the one which affects most people. Gestational diabetes has a semblance to type 2diabetes.The assignment will look into new and future methods of treatment of diabetes. [Show More]
