After getting vaccinated, you develop immunity to that disease, without having to get the disease first." This is why vaccines are now recommended and even enforced in some institutions. Where there are some drugs that can cure a disease, vaccines prevent them from affecting the body. Vaccines help lessen the death and morbidity that comes with some of the possible life-threatening complications like polio, measles, and hepatitis B. A great example of a vaccine that has helped millions is the Smallpox vaccine. Dr. Edward Jenner eliminated the disease. He realized that an injection with cowpox, a weaker version of the virus, could stop smallpox. People put off getting their immunizations for many reasons; but the two popular reasons skepticism of the immunization program and personal experience. In the case of the people who have no confidence in the vaccines, they have grown to trust what others have told them and not facts. It could also be because of their previous experiences with immunizations.
