The outbreak was initially reported in March 2014 and was declared over by the World Health Organization on June 10, 2016. (CDC Ebola Virus, 2021) This outbreak was centered in Liberia, with spread to many other parts of Africa, Europe, and the United States. The index patient was reported on December 2013 on a child from Guinea believed to be infected by bats. (CDC Ebola Virus, 2021) When five additional cases happened in a rapid amount of time, the medical alert was issued on January 24, 2014 to health officials in that district. The virus rapidly spread to Guinea™s capital, and the Ministry of Health released an alert, with the WHO following suit on March 23, 2014 by officially declaring an outbreak of Ebola virus. (CDC Ebola Virus, 2021) During the course of the epidemic, Ebola virus spread throughout Italy, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Spain, United Kingdom, and the United States. The United States saw its first Ebola patient diagnosed on September 30, 2014 in a patient who had travelled to Dallas from West Africa; the patient expired, however the healthcare workers who took care of him tested positive after treating this patient.
