The main reason the pilgrims traveled from England to North America was that they were seeking freedom from religious oppression from King James I. Although most of them died on the journey, the ones that made it were able to settle quickly due to the help of the Native Americans. In addition, there were social pressures to that also contributed to the English colonization of North America, as the population in England nearly doubled.
