Nurses with informatics capabilities can boost care quality and bring value to the use of clinical system and technology at their organizations. The scope of practice for nurses in informatics roles has been evolving and shifting in response to the needs of health care organizations. According to the American Nurses Association, some of the major functional areas for specialists in nursing informatics include designing apps and training staff in the use of electronic health records. The issues are that making a switch from pen and paper communication to strictly computer records are not easy but it will be a great advantage to patient™s outcome. Identifying Academic Peer-Reviewed Journal Articles Using Summon database at Capella University Library™s search engine to find the best library databases for my research, I accessed databases relating to Nursing and Health Sciences, such as CINAHL. This led me to EBSCO host. I used keywords such as œelectronic health record, œUSA, to search for articles dated from 3 to 5 years of scholarly and peer-reviewed literature and full text articles.
