Devon stated that he recently went through a break up with his boyfriend of 3 years after his boyfriend cheated on him. Devon is reporting saddness, feeling anxious, and generallly unhappy even though he initiated the breakup. Devon stated he is having dificulty sleeping, focusing on his work, and having a general sense of hopelessness about his future. During this initial session Devon confided that he sought out counseling about 2 years ago relating to an eating issues he was having. Devon stated his eating was out of control, that he was eating his feelings. Devon shared his experience of his eating habits 2 years ago (binge constantly, and purge by getting rid of all the calories). Upon further questoining Devon reports that his unhealthy eating habits have returned since the break up. Devon shared that he has had 3 episodes per week of eating large amounts of food. Devon identified that during one of these episodes he age "3 boxes of cookies, 2 bags of chips, a box of doughnots, and 2 cheese burgers within a 2 hour period." Devon revealed that he felt out of control during these episodes like he was not in his body, "but rather watching from the outside." Devon continued stating that after every episode he induced vomiting to rid himself of the calories and "get rid of the horrible feelings of shame and disgust with myself." Devon stated that he has experences this routine with food off and on for about 8 years. Devon reflected that he has noticed that the excessive eating and vomiting pattern tends to get worse during periods of stress and depression. Devon shared that he is embarrassed and ashamed by this behavior and does everything he can to hide it from his closest friends and family.
