As a health policy professional leader, communicating with lay audiences is an important skill in promoting the health of the community for master prepared registered nurses. Develop a concise posit... ion statement regarding research findings and recommendations by experts as they relate to workplace support for breast feeding mothers, medical marijuana services in the community or a community service administered by Family Nurse Practitioners (if you pick this one be specific about the type of community service). Search Results A position statement is an explanation, a justification or a recommendation for a course of action that reflects ANA's stance regarding the concern. For this week’s assignment I will be working on a developing position statement to address breast feeding mothers in my community. Initially nurse practitioner would educate on the benefits of the breastfeeding mentioned below. For infants, breastfeeding has short-term and long-term health benefits. In the short-term, breastfeeding reduces the risk of gastroenteritis, necrotizing enterocolitis, ear infections, pain following minor procedures, hospital readmissions, respiratory infections, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), and urinary tract infections. In the long-term, breastfeeding reduces the risk of asthma, atopic dermatitis, cardiovascular disease, celiac disease, diabetes, childhood inflammatory bowel disease, obesity, and sleep disordered breathing. Further, breastfeeding is associated with increased cognition and neurodevelopment (Dahl, 2015) Breastfeeding is also beneficial to the mother's health. Postpartum benefits include decreased blood loss, lower risk of postpartum infection and anemia, and greater weight loss. Breastfeeding enhances the relationship between a mother and her infant by improving bonding. For example, skin-to-skin contact during breastfeeding has been shown to improve the infants’ vital signs, especially immediately after birth (Moore & Anderson, 2007) Working breastfeeding mother’s should be educated that their employee should provide them with a private place where they can extract milk. Mother need to know that they are allowed to extract milk as many times as such need arises.. The employer is not required to compensate fot the time of extraction [Show More]
