He presented for his annual routine examination with no present illness or complaint. He has a history of obesity and hypertension and the hypertension is controlled with medication. He lives outside Atlanta, GA with is wife and infant son in a single-family home where he feels safe. He is employed at a local private Christian school as a janitor and states he enjoys his job. The patient was polite and cooperative during examination and appears well-groomed. A1. Evidence-Based Interview Techniques Collecting information from patients is an essential step in assessing a patient so that they can receive the care they need. The interview process is important in building a provider-patient relationship so that the patient feels at ease, empowered, and supported. Patient are normally nervous and guarded when going for a doctor visit. During the comprehensive health assessment several interviewing techniques were used including adaptive questioning, active listening, nonverbal communication, and transitions and empowerment.
